To celebrate our beautiful planet we wanted to help you sift through your recycling questions.
We all know recycling is the right thing to do for our community and environment. Recycling decreases the amount of waste sent to landfills and converts waste into reusable material. But what you can and cannot recycle can get confusing. We have compiled a handy list from the Waste Management website to help clarify those recycling questions.
What you can recycle:
- Aluminum cans
- Aluminum foil and bakeware
- Steel and tin cans
- Corrugated cardboard
- Magazines
- Office paper (keep separate from other waste paper)
- Newspapers
- Paperboard (make sure it is free of food waste)
- Paper cardboard dairy and juice cartons
- Junk mail aka mixed paper
- Phone books
- Clear glass
- Brown glass
- Green glass
- Certain plastics (depends on the facility)
What you cannot recycle:
- Glass contaminated with stones, dirt or food waste
- Ceramics
- Heat-resistant glass, such as Pyrex
- Mixed colors of broken glass
- Mirror or window glass
- Metal or plastic caps and lids
- Crystal
- Light bulbs
- Cathode-ray tubes
Please note: All items need to be clean before they hit your recycle bin! One dirty product, or one with food waste still in it, can contaminate an entire bale. This can cause thousands of recyclable items to go to a landfill instead of being recycled.
